The architectural sensibility of Hitoshi Saruta is truly mysterious.
He favors large solid masses such as concrete, natural stone, and steel plating and uses an abundance of "black" both inside and outside his buildings. It is easy to imagine solemn, heavy spaces where nothing else can easily exist. However, Saruta's spaces are unexpectedly full of grace and light, which elevate the quality of the architecture.

'12 Ways toLive in Mexico' is a collection of 12 projects signed by SLOT from Mexico led by Juan Carlos Vidals. Since 2009, he founded SLOT, based in Mexico City. One of SLOT’s signatures has been the experimentation and constant requisitioning of existing spatial blueprints. Seoul is just behind Mumbai and Lagos in the list of the most extreme density cities in the world. The central areas have seen the cost of land rising by 680 times since the Korean War, reaching the prohibitive $80,000 per square meter. ‘Italian experience, foreign architects: Stories of those who pulled it off’ is a cross-section of promising international architects born in the 80s who, thanks to—or in spite of— studying in Italy were able to open their studios and design inspiring works.
In China, 1% of the world's architects have to design 50% of all the buildings and must do so for 15% of the profit. This extreme situation in which architects have to operate, design and build, creates the theoretical basis for 'The Condition of Chinese Architecture'.
Do our houses really seem to belong to our contemporary times? Do they have the same technological content of all the other tools that we use nowadays such as smartphones and the latest car models? The answer is definitively not! We are almost resigned to consider houses as something structurally different from modernity when compared to the other contemporary products.
The need of relating and aggregating individual housing units entails the need to think of the building as a system of systems and subsystems, where the "interface rules" must balance the simplicity of construction and assembling of the single element with the possibility to have a multiplicity and variety of possible combinations for flexibility of use.
Passion for books is what drives us at TCA Editions.
We are dedicated to quality books about architecture. Topics of genuine and lasting value that fuel our passion. Books have a value that no other medium can match, whether digital or analogue. When other media are consumed and forgotten, beautiful books are still there. They are eternal.
We are an entrepreneur-driven publishing house, skilled and passionate in what we do. As specialists, we oversee the entire process ourselves. This, we know, is the recipe for good relations and high quality. We work with every link in the value chain: from consultancy, idea and concept through funding, editing, design, production, sales and marketing to global international distribution.
TCA Editions regularly partners with architectural, design, and engineering practices to work on publications. For submissions of this nature, please contact:
